And the adventure begins!

I arrived at SFO yesterday afternoon ready to embark on my big journey to Africa. Not knowing what to expect, I said my goodbyes to friends and family and waited at the boarding gate. Somehow, I managed to stumble upon a large group of UC students heading to ghana. The fifteen hour flight turned out to be much better than any I had taken before. With an empty seat next to me and a kind UC student who let me sleep on him, I was able to get about seven hours of sleep and arrive in Dubai feeling rested and content. I met up with some more students and we decided to venture out and see the nightlife before our morning flights. The taxi driver did not quite understood what we meant, and it wasn't until someone ventured to ask for a "discotech" that he finally gained some clarity as to what we were searching for. He first took us to see the new building in downtown Dubai which now can claim the title as the world's tallest. We then went to Atlantis, the most beautiful hotel/adventure park that I have ever seen. There was a huge windowed aquarium complete with sharks and stingrays, as well as water slides and posh nightclubs. On our way into the first nightclub, we were looked up and down for not following the house rules of "high fashion and no flip flops". That, mixed with our lack of ID's and entry fee sent us exploring once again. We ended up at a gorgeous hookah bar overlooking the entire city. Good music, company and hookah made for a wonderful night in Dubai.
Currently, I am sitting in the airport waiting to board. Hopefully the jetlag won't last long, as I have already missed two days of
orientation at USIU and must jump right into the mix. Who knows what is in store, but I cannot w
ait to find out!
The pictures are awful, I know, but it was the best I could get at the time.
